Fragile, 2022
Woodcut, 16" x 12"
This piece was created from the same board by starting with the lightest color and carving away till only the darkest is left. I utilized cream, light blue, red, and dark blue, in that order.
This print used a discontinued Riso Print Gocco machine. I was able to create many prints with slight color variations through this process. It was fun!

For this project, I took the same design and explored different printing techniques on three separate copper plates.
Queen of the Night, 2022
Woodcut, 12" x 9"
The Queen of the Night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) is a flower that blooms once a year. The flowers open during the night, and by dawn, the flowers have already wilted. I communicated this idea by transforming a budding flower to bloom fully in the dark and then be absorbed as the light fades in from behind it, wilting the flower. I scanned each print and edited it into a short animation.
I utilized the same board and slowly cut away the design to form each print. This process was difficult because not only did I have to plan each individual print, but plan how I could transform it into each step following that print.
